Digital Photo Professional 4.0 Download

Canon's Digital Photo Professional software, commonly referred to as DPP, has just received updates to versions 4.0.2 and 3.14.41. Both of these were joined by updates to a roster of the company's other photography-centric software, including the EOS Utility, EOS MOVIE Utility, and Picture Style Editor. Digital Photo Professional is intended for photographers who primarily shoot Raw, providing a way to sort and process images, print photographs, and more.

Version 4.0.2 is limited to those running 64-bit systems, whereas version 3.14.41 also supports 32-bit systems. The 4.x update is a simple one, adding EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM support. The 3.14.41 update is more extensive, however, including added support for the PowerShot G7 X, PowerShot SX60 HS, and EOS 7D Mark II while dropping support for OS X 10.7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. In the latter version, a bug fix is also applied that corrects an issue with saving certain files, among other things.

EOS MOVIE Utility 1.2 has gained support for five EOS cameras and has had several improvements applied, including more items in the info display and an enhanced image cropping function. Picture Style Editor 1.14.20 and EOS Utility 2.14.10 bring EOS 7D Mark II support, and EOS Utility 3.0.1 has added EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM support. I've always liked DPP3's simplicity and conversions. I want to like DPP4. But it has so many bugs. Here are some that are really irritating.

This is on OSX.It does not recognize edits that were made in DPP3.In the resize operation, even using Lock Aspect Ratio, it won't update Height when you change Width. You have to click in the other field for it to update.Thumbnails don't display information like aperture. But can display focus points, which seem relatively unimportant compared to AP. Can choose the 'With Shooting Info' option, though, to see AP in a column beside the thumbnail.

But this makes it very hard to scan the thumbnails quickly.Crop tool doesn't default to last used aspect ratio. When viewing a jpeg resized with another program, it doesn't scale the image correctly. It will stretch an image to fill the viewing area.

It doesn't seem possible to view a jpeg at its actual size unless the image was resized with DPP. I hope they get their DPP 4 project on track. Have you actually used DPP4? On my computer it runs about 20times slower than DPP3. And also if you are hoping to get Lightroom-like highlight recovery with DPP4, forget about it.

It's just a tiny but better than DPP3 that's all. All the other extra stuff they added I'll never use. So I went back to DPP3 to edit all my 5d3 raws. Just to make 100% sure, I have tested developing a picture with same setting in both DPP 3 & 4. And the final result was exactly the same. Even the lens optimizer output was identical.

So I just want to let you all know you are not missing anything big. DPP3 is lightening fast and the lens optimizer is simply incredible.

And also I know this is a personal thing but the color you get out of DPP is just too good to use Lightroom. And with its quickView function, simply no other software provide faster way to cull through 1000s of pictures. I know DPP3 has some quirks but this is my #1 software.

There is simply no reason for Canon not to offer support for all RAW enabled cameras in DPP 4.x. If they can do so in DPP 3.x then they can also do it just as easily in DPP 4.x. It is a straightforward matter of providing parameter files for Canon's proprietary RAW CR2 formats and lens profiles. It may seem like a lot but it actually is not. DPP 4.x has the potential to be a great tool for Canon customers who process RAW but Canon deliberately Balkanizes software support in typical Japanese camera industry fashion, give-one-thing-take-away-another type thinking.

@ timbukto I personally use iPhoto and Aperture. The camera manufacturers software don't fit in my workflow, allthough I heard that Sony's RAW converter had better results than Adobe and Aperture (not sure if that's still the case). I'm not a fan of Adobe and their product politics, especially since they went for their subscription model. Photoshop is too overkill for me, I don't need more than lighting, colour and cropping tools for my pictures. @ Meland This lens correction is already built into all my Sony cameras @ all thanks for your answers:). Wouldn't know about Canon software - with 2 CD sets from recent Canon purchases both failed to load onto my PC - which is Windows 8 - which is me doing the Beta work for Microsoft. Ph'd Cannon, got the link for software online - didn't work either!

Bit the same really, lazy corporations in the money not supporting their customers. Bit like Canon lenses, yep, fantastic gear. $'s are a joke.

And so bought Sigma. Canon needs to get in the game. The review link given by jameslj says it all - good review + thanks for the link.

There are most likely users of DPP 3.0 that use it in an actual professional capacity for which DPP 4.0 with its inherent bugs for a new release can cause extreme gnashing of teeth at best, to a loss of business functionality and lost customer loyalty at worse. Software engineering is not the same as getting new camera hardware and having GAS. In the software world you have to support the folks still using the crappiest of browsers until they all die off.and I mean the users not the crappy browsers.haha. If everyone was just a computer literate enthusiast willing to learn, install, and play with any new software.well things would be a lot easier. That said I really think DPP 4.0 kills 3.0 and hope 3.0 users die off sooner than later.
